Program Description

Event Description

THIS REGISTRATION IS FOR THE HYBRID PROGRAM ZOOM SESSION EVERY TUESDAY @ 4:30 PM IN FEBRUARY PLUS A TAKE HOME KIT. While we hope you can join us "live," if you cannot make the Zoom sessions, please sign up for the TAKE HOME KIT ONLY option; it will include links to the story readings and videos, as well as the four activities. It will also include a book list for one of the 2021 Youth Media Award recipients! http://www.ala.org/news/press-releases/2021/01/ala-announces-2021-youth… PLEASE NOTE, THIS IS A 4-WEEK PROGRAM AND REGISTERING FOR THE FIRST WEEK WILL SIGN YOU UP FOR ALL 4 WEEKS. Registered participants will pick up their kit the week BEFORE the Zoom sessions begin; the kit will contain all four week's worth of activities.

What kind of friend are you? Join us for a 4-week series where we'll learn what could make you even better! We'll meet weekly on Zoom with a trained facilitator from the Oklahoma Center for Community and Justice (OCCJ) to hear a story, watch a short fun video from the Different and The Same series, and discuss each week's activities. Then you'll have a few related tasks to complete between sessions to earn your Friendship pin! If you attended our program last February, please note these are NEW videos, so come check them out!

February 2- "The Club" -- Be Brave and Stand Tall
February 9-"Tug of War" -- Break Out of the Box
February 16-"Cinderella and Me" -- Embrace True Beauty
February 23-"I'm American Too" -- Do Away with Assumptions

Different and the Same is a child-focused initiative that helps students identify, talk about, and prevent prejudice. The centerpiece of the program is a series of child-friendly videos developed by the company affiliated with the highly-regarded children’s program “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood.” The videos utilize a diverse group of puppets and live actors to teach lessons about differences, respect, and getting along with others. These lessons stay with children for a lifetime, helping them develop into caring and compassionate citizens.

You will need some common household items for each week's activities, which will be noted on the kit when you pick it up. The kit will contain separate bags of supplies for each week's activities and will be labeled.

Kits are one per FAMILY. Any duplicate registrations will be deleted. WEEKLY ACTIVITIES ARE EASILY REPRODUCED IF YOU HAVE MORE THAN ONE CHILD WANTING TO ATTEND (sharing the same device); THE KIT WILL INCLUDE ENOUGH SUPPLIES FOR TWO FRIENDSHIP PINS! Kits can be picked up at Northwest Library from Wednesday January 27th through Saturday January 30th. Registered customers must pick up kits by Saturday 4 PM or call the library at (405) 231-8650 to make alternate pick up arrangements as any remaining kits will be made available to waitlisted customers on Sunday. Due to high demand for these kits, all print outs and instructions will be posted here so that families with siblings or others who may not have had the opportunity to register can reproduce the kit at home.
