STEAM in September: Hispanic Heritage Month- Taino Petroglyphs

Celebrate Hispanic American Heritage Month with this fun activity looking back in history. Included in the kit will be an activity to make a necklace based on Taino Petroglyphs. For a long time the Taino people were thought to be extinct, only represented by the petroglyphs (images made into rocks via carving or scraping) and other artifacts that were collected. However recent DNA testing has revealed the Taino have ancestors still living today- mostly in Puerto Rico. In this fun activity, clay and string will be provided to make necklaces as well as hand outs to learn more about the Taino people. Kits are one per FAMILY with each kit having enough material for two petroglyphs. Any duplicate registrations will be deleted. This kit does contain clay and small items, so please do not leave small children unattended with this kit. Kits can be picked up at Northwest Library from Wednesday September 9th through Saturday September 12th during curbside pickup hours.
