Event Description
Power Hack is back and better than ever!! This Edmond Library favorite returns this fall in a very special ADVANCED edition. Our hackers have asked to move forward from block coding into learning to write the programming languages that shape our world every day.
Welcome to The Hunt for the Monk Diamond, a ten-week mystery adventure where advanced coders will begin learning HTML, CSS and Javascript to build web pages and interactive applications.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION and REQUIREMENTS:
Registration is required and will register your hacker for the entire ten-week series and showcase. Because of the skill-building nature of the class and the small number of openings, please make sure your hacker is committed to attending the entire course.
Your hacker should have EITHER their own device capable of saving files OR a USB flash drive to store their projects from a library device. We cannot save files to the library devices, and hackers who register for a library device may be asked to share with one other student. Devices must have a basic text application, such as Notepad.
PROSPECTIVE HACKERS MUST HAVE:
--- strong block coding skills including familiarity with loops, conditionals, events and functions
--- basic keyboarding ability
--- ability to perform all of the above WITHOUT ADULT ASSISTANCE. Parents are welcome to observe in club meetings, but we ask that they not sit with their child. An important part of coding is developing grit, critical thinking and problem solving skills, and the ability to work with teammates to fix bugs and generate solutions.
We look forward to seeing you this fall at Power Hack!
