GENEALOGY ONE-ON-ONE TUTORIALS

Looking for clues as to your ancestry? Or do you have specific questions on how to get started with your genealogy research?  The Metropolitan Library System is hosting one-on-one sessions to provide the support and guidance needed for specific genealogy research needs.

CHOCTAW LIBRARY GUILD TO HOLD HERB & GARDEN FESTIVAL ONLINE

The Choctaw Library Guild will hold their first herb and garden festival to raise money to support the Metropolitan Library System’s Choctaw Library from May 16th to May 23rd.

“We had planned to have the festival outside, but because of the pandemic, we decided it’s best to hold it online,” said Heather Zeoli, director of development for the Metropolitan Library System.

COVID-19 Diary Project

As part of its commitment to document and share the history of Oklahoma County the Special Collections & Research department of the Metropolitan Library System has announced the Oklahoma County COVID-19 Diary Project. The project will gather journals, diaries and other creative material from around Oklahoma County to help document the community’s experiences during the current crisis caused by the novel coronavirus.

Love books? Like sale prices? The Friends of the Metropolitan Library System are hosting a booksale that is sure to delight booklovers everywhere.

One of the largest booksales in the nation will take place in Oklahoma City Saturday and Sunday Feb. 22 and 23, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds Expo Hall. Admission is free. The Friends are offering thousands of affordable titles at their annual public booksale event.

2020 Black History Month Activities

EDMOND LIBRARY RENOVATIONS TO BEGIN IN DECEMBER

EDMOND, OK– Renovations to the Edmond Library will begin next month, improving the popular library’s energy efficiency with an all new HVAC system, roof, carpet, ceiling and LED lighting. The Metropolitan Library System’s Edmond Library will close on Dec. 9, 2019 and renovations will continue through Mar. 2020.

The Del City Library will soon get a new building and move out of their current facility, housed within the Del City Community Center. The new building will help the Library better meet the needs of a growing Del City community.

New Bethany Library to Open in November

OKLAHOMA CITY– The new state-of-the-art Bethany Library is set to open in November. The 23,000-square-foot library is much more than simply a new building – it offers a new library experience.

The new Bethany Library, on 6700 NW 35, will open on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2019 at 10 a.m., and it is sure to wow library goers. BESTSELLING AUTHOR OF BOOM TOWN TO VISIT OKC

OKLAHOMA CITY – Sam Anderson, bestselling author of Boom Town, an urban history of Oklahoma City, will visit the Metropolitan Library System this spring.

The event will be held April 20 from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Metropolitan Library System’s Ronald J. Norick Downtown Library. Metro Library Reaches Record Numbers in Summer Reading Program

The Metropolitan Library System reached record-breaking numbers for Summer Reading– reaching their goal weeks before the conclusion of the program.

Almost 26,000 readers participated in the annual Summer Reading program, a 12 percent increase over last year’s summer reading program -and there is still two weeks left to participate. Adult participation is 65 percent higher. The children’s program has had a 63 percent bump in 10-hour goal completions and a 148 percent bump in 20-hour goal completions. LIBRARY SENSORY PROGRAM DEVELOPS COGNITIVE SKILLS IN CHILDREN

Pops, shakes and splashing sounds fill the room, but the most prominent sound from sensory playtime are the sounds of giggles and parents talking with their little ones as they learn. METRO LIBRARY GIVES THOUSANDS OF NEW BOOKS TO LOCAL NONPROFITS

The Metropolitan Library System donated over four thousand new books to local nonprofit organizations following the completion of the library’s annual Summer Reading program in August.

The Read It Forward program gives Summer Reading participants the opportunity to donate their prize - a free book - to someone else or "Read it Forward" rather than claim it. The library system also donates a book on behalf of Summer Reading participants who complete 30 hours or more in the program. These books are then distributed to local nonprofits serving families and youth.

METROPOLITAN LIBRARY SYSTEM RELEASES 2018 NEIGHBORHOOD ARTS SCHEDULE

The Metropolitan Library System announced the schedule for the 2018 Neighborhood Arts programs, a series of energetic performances throughout the summer for all ages to enjoy.

 

Programs will take place at each Metro Library branch from June 4 - July 28, 2018. Performers go on tour for two weeks at a time making stops at neighborhood libraries along the way. The Metropolitan Library System will host Geek Con – a celebration of pop-culture fandom for children and adults.

 

Geek Con will take place at the Downtown Library May 19 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. library customers can register for individual activities at metrolibrary.org to reserve a spot.
