Event Description

ALL AGES WELCOME; NO REGISTRATION REQUIRED

The Edmond Library welcomes KANPAI Japanese Taiko Drum for an interactive demonstration of kumi-daiko. Enjoy the performance and then try your hand! Taiko drumming has been part of Japanese culture for centuries, evolving from military use to sacred instrument to theater, and eventually to ensemble (group) form in 1951. It has enjoyed a recent resurgence of interest both in Japan and in North America, where it was transplanted and has flourished as a rich and varied form of drumming.

This event will be held outside at Shannon Miller Park, weather permitting. Please bring chairs or blankets, and water if it's warm. Otherwise, it will be in Meeting Rooms A/B inside the library.

Here they are performing at the OKC Thunder halftime show!  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNMeQa6BpdQ
