Program Description
Event Description
Have you ever wondered how composers create scary sound effects? Join us for a super fun and accessible workshop focused on spooky sounds and facilitated by experimental harpist Moriah Bailey! We'll listen to "scary" music and reflect on why certain sounds feel ominous, and then... Everyone will get a chance to make their own scary sound effects!! You'll get to experiment with an electric harp, guitars, violin, voice, and more. No musical experience is required, and you will not be expected to perform for others. You are encouraged to bring your own instrument, if you would like, but it is not required.
Some music we might listen to & discuss:
- Bernard Herrmann's Score to Psycho
- "Threnody to the Victims of Hiroshima" by Krzysztof Penderecki
- Anything you want to bring and discuss!
