Event Description
According to culinary historians, the American tea cake was created over 200 years ago by African slaves in the southeastern United States. Following emancipation, tea cakes became a staple of southern heritage. Today, tea cake recipes remain treasured pieces of black American family histories, and these cookies with a cake-like consistency are a traditional treat.
To celebrate Juneteenth, pick up this take-home kit for a recipe by Jocelyn Delk Adams from her Grandbaby Cakes blog, along with the supplies to make a batch of tea cakes.
Kits must be picked up within one week of the listed program date.
