Program Description

Event Description

Enslaved Black Americans were freed on January 1, 1863, but many did not find out they were free until June 19, 1865. Juneteenth is now a national holiday that commemorates the end of slavery in the US. Juneteenth is often celebrated with picnics, rodeos, and family celebrations, all centered around Black American history and culture. Join the Ralph Ellison Library this evening to celebrate Juneteenth with read-alouds, songs, rhymes, and a craft.

Family Story Time is recommended for all ages and includes shorter and longer stories combined with action games and activities.
