Event Description
Join us on Saturday May 18 at 11 am to immerse yourself in the beauty of a traditional Way of Tea Japanese tea ceremony, hosted by the Oklahoma Chado, Urasenke Chado school in Oklahoma, and the Japan America Society of Oklahoma (JASO), a non-profit organization created in 1975 to share Japanese culture in Oklahoma. You'll learn about the cultural significance of the way of the tea, watch a demonstration, and then get an opportunity to try Japanese sweets and matcha, including how to drink a bowl of matcha. Begin your summer adventure at the library by meeting individuals from a vibrant community and connecting with the rich history that has shaped Japan's identity!
This program is recommended for adults, teens, and tweens ages 8 and up (who are old enough and interested enough to sit and watch quietly without disrupting the ceremony or others around them). Please register each individual who will attend.
Registration opens Saturday, May 11 @ 9am. NOTE: the tea and treats are limited for this event, so we can only invite 20 participants, but there are also 20 waitlist seats available for those willing to OBSERVE ONLY. In other words, ALL 40 people who register can attend, but only the first 20 are guaranteed the refreshments.
Please cancel if you later realize you cannot attend, so someone else can enjoy the experience in your place. Your registration will hold your place until five minutes after the listed start time of the program. At 0:05, any remaining spaces will be given to those who are on the waitlist and present at the library, in the order they registered.
