PICK UP YOUR KIT, WALK THE WALK, JOIN US ON ZOOM!
If you were to look down from space at Earth, what would you see? A BIG BLUE PLANET! That's because WATER covers 71% of the Earth's surface, just like it makes up so much of our own bodies as well. Like that wacky teacher with the frizzy red hair, Becky Zawalski from Blue Thumb (a division of the Oklahoma Conservation Commission) will SHRINK us all down to the size of a water droplet and guide us on a magical fieldtrip through the water cycle! At each stop along the way, you'll get a bead to add to a length of cord to create a bracelet that will remind you of the ways in which we are all connected through this wet resource we need to live.
So come pick up your TAKE HOME KIT, as normal, the third week in April. Then any time that week (preferably before the ZOOM on 4/27), please visit the grassy area to the south of the library entrance to "walk the water cycle." At each station you'll roll a die which will determine where you (as a water droplet) will move next. Signs will be spaced 6 feet from each other; please wait and socially distance if someone else is present in the "cycle." Come into the building after you finish to collect beads for the stations you visited; you'll have a tally card to keep track of your 15 rolls. Of course, we will also provide a reading list so you can DIVE into the collection and SWIM around for a while, as well as a link to a fun interactive BLUE TRAVELER game sponsored by Project Wet and EcoLab! Feel free to read and explore the online videos and activities but SAVE THE BRACELET for our ZOOM "fieldtrip" on TUESDAY APRIL 27th!!! You'll receive the link for that meeting in an email reminder the day before. Miss Becky will lead a discussion as we bead, and we plan to read the 2021 Caldecott Award Book We are Water Protectors by Carole Lindstrom!
Kits are one per FAMILY. Any duplicate registrations will be deleted. Kits can be picked up at Northwest Library from Wednesday April 21st through Saturday April 24th during curbside pickup hours. Registered customers must pick up kits by Saturday 4 PM or call the library at (405) 231-8650 to make alternate pick up arrangements as any remaining kits will be made available to waitlisted customers on Sunday.
