Event Description
Oklahoma City ranks as the 20th worst city in the United States for the number of evictions filed by landlords against residential tenants. Most tenants do not know or fully understand their rights and obligations under the Oklahoma Residential Landlord and Tenant Act. Many cannot afford private counsel to represent them in eviction proceedings. The Housing Eviction Legal Assistance Program (HELP) at Oklahoma City University School of Law offers pro bono legal assistance to tenants facing eviction from their homes in Oklahoma County. There are not any income or citizenship qualifiers for representation by HELP. After evaluation of a case, if there are defenses available, HELP provides pro bono legal assistance to its clients. A HELP attorney will discuss and answer questions from tenants about their rights and obligations under Oklahoma law.
