Event Description

Join us for a Community Read of the New York Times bestseller and Pulitzer Prize-winning book, Evicted by Matthew Desmond.

In Evicted, Princeton sociologist Matthew Desmond follows eight families in Milwaukee as they struggle to keep a roof over their heads, transforming our understanding of poverty and economic exploitation while providing fresh ideas for solving one of 21st-century America's most devastating problems. Its unforgettable scenes of hope and loss remind us of the centrality of home, without which nothing else is possible.

Pick up a free copy of Evicted at the library, or check out the eBook or eAudiobook from the Libby app. Then, join us for a discussion of the book.

This book club coincides with the Homeless Alliance's Fresh stART Art Show in the Atrium of the Downtown Library from October 2-24. The art show allows individuals experiencing homelessness a supportive environment for creating art, offering them the opportunity for creative expression, skill building, and to potentially earn income.
