Program Description

Event Description

We are recognizing Black History month which is observed from February 1st through March 1st.  During this month we recognize the culture, history, and achievements of black Americans and their central role in this nation's story.

Quilting is a crafting tradition that has been practiced by generations of African American quilters.  The quilts from Gee's Bend, a community in Alabama, display a unique abstract design showcasing a practical art form.  These quilts have received international acclaim.

We will be making our own version of these quilts using strips of patterned and plain paper.  Information will also be provided on the history of this craft and its importance in the African American Community.  Kits are one per family.  Kits will contain enough supplies for at least 3 projects.

Kits can be picked up at Northwest Library from Monday, February 21st through Saturday, February 26th. Registered customers must pick up kits by Saturday at 5:00 PM or call the library at (405) 231-8650 to make alternate pick up arrangements, as any remaining kits will be made available to waitlisted customers on Sunday.
