Splatter Art

Art is sometimes most fun when mess is involved! Create your own chalk-paint splatter art masterpiece with a few household ingredients. Inspired by Jackson Pollock, we got creative with the tools we used to paint.

Supplies

  • ½ cup cornstarch
  • 2/3 cup water
  • Food coloring
  • Large bowl for mixing
  • Fork for mixing
  • Individual cups or muffin tin for paint
  • Smock or clothes to get messy in
  • Paintbrush
  • Spoon
  • Anything around your house that could create a good splatter!
    • Fun Fact: Jackson Pollock would paint with sticks, trowels, and by pouring paint directly from the can

How-To

Steps

  1. Combine water and cornstarch in your bowl, mix with fork until smooth
  2. Add 2-3 drops of food coloring to each empty cup
  3. Pour equal amounts of the cornstarch/water mix into each cup, stir until food coloring is mixed in
  4. Bring your paint and painting tools outside; use your paintbrush and other utensils to drip, flick, splash, and splatter your chalk-paint on your driveway or sidewalk
