Celebrate Star Wars Day at the Library! 

  • Star Wars Day – May 4 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. at Belle Isle Library (5501 N. Villa Ave. Oklahoma City, OK 73112): Celebrate Star Wars Day with cosplay, scavenger hunts, crafts and other galactic adventures for Jedi of all ages. Events include a documentary screening from 10-11 a.m., Younglings Jedi Academy from 10-11 a.m., trivia from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (signup required) and an escape room from 2-4 p.m. (signup required). 
  • May the 4th Be With You Celebration – May 4 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at Southern Oaks Library (6900 S. Walker Ave. Oklahoma City, OK 73139): Celebrate Star Wars Day with games, crafts, costumes, and free comic book giveaways. 

“Common Enemy” Film Screenings 

  • Film Showing with Discussion Panel – May 4 from 2 - 4 p.m. at Bethany Library (6700 NW 35th St. Bethany, OK 73008): Join us for a screening of "Common Enemy" by Humane League, showcasing Oklahomans' fight against industrial animal agriculture. After the film, engage in a panel discussion with local representatives and experts on advocating for better practices benefiting animals, farmers and small towns. 
  • Film Showing with Rescue Pigs – May 11 from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. at Warr Acres Library (5901 NW 63rd St. Warr Acres, OK 73132) and May 24 from 3:30 - 4 p.m. at Choctaw Library (2525 Muzzy St. Choctaw, OK 73020): Join us for a screening of the film, a discussion of the film, and a special visit from a rescue pig! 

Almonte Library Grand Opening 

  • Opening Ceremony – May 15 from 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. at Almonte Library (2727 SW 59th St. Oklahoma City, OK 73119): The Almonte Library, initially intended as a temporary space, has served its community for a decade. Now, it’s getting a permanent Oklahoma City home. Join us for the Grand Opening celebration on May 15 that begins with a Ribbon Cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. The event also includes studio demos with a 3-D printer and embroidery machine, refreshments, cookie decorating, budget gardening, an interactive self-guided tour with prizes, 3-D prints exploration, photo frame creation, and a performance by Race Dance Collective from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. All ages welcome. 

GeekCon ‘24 

  • The Phantom Geek – May 18 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m at the Downtown OKC Library (300 Park Ave. Oklahoma City, OK 73102): GeekCon ’24: The Phantom Geek offers fun for all ages, from comics to anime to K-pop, featuring OKC Improv, vendor booths, crafting, escape rooms, and a Cosplay fashion show! 

Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month 

  • Asian American Pacific Islander Month Family Take Home Kit (for all ages) – from May 1 to May 24 at Del City Library (4330 SE 15th St. Del City, OK 73115) 
  • Kintsugi Pottery – Join our adult program to learn the Japanese art of Kintsugi, repairing broken ceramic planter pots with lacquer mixed with gold dust and turning imperfections into beautiful works of art.

  • Art Around the World 3: Fiji – from May 7 - May 11 at Wright Library (2101 Exchange Ave. Oklahoma City, OK 73108): Celebrate National Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month with our Take and Make Kit for kids teens, and adults, featuring a craft inspired by Fijian folk art. 
  • Take-Home Tuesday: Ikebana – available all day May 7 at Del City Library (4330 SE 15th St. Del City, OK 73115): Try your hand at Ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arranging, and join us for a traditional Japanese tea ceremony for adults, featuring a demonstration and tastings of Japanese sweets and matcha. 
  • Japanese Tea Ceremony – May 18 from 2 - 4 p.m. at Del City Library (4330 SE 15th St. Del City, OK 73115): Join us for a Japanese tea ceremony hosted for teens and adults by the Oklahoma Chado Urasenke School and Japan America Society of Oklahoma.
