METROPOLITAN LIBRARY SYSTEM RELEASES 2018 NEIGHBORHOOD ARTS SCHEDULE
The Metropolitan Library System announced the schedule for the 2018 Neighborhood Arts programs, a series of energetic performances throughout the summer for all ages to enjoy.
Programs will take place at each Metro Library branch from June 4 - July 28, 2018. Performers go on tour for two weeks at a time making stops at neighborhood libraries along the way. Neighborhood Arts showcases local talent including Lucas Ross, Sugar Free Allstars, Rhythmically Speaking, OKC Improv, Adam and Kizzie and others.
“The Neighborhood Arts programs give local library-goers the opportunity to really take in the arts available to them in OKC,” children’s services manager Kristin Williamson said. “Our performance schedule is created with the intent of showcasing local talent and engaging a diverse audience.”
June 4- 16: Lucas Ross: BANJO FARM WORLD
Local news reporter, comedian and musician, Lucas Ross takes you on a banjo adventure with songs into a world where instruments are grown on trees, dogs pretend to be ninjas and bees that need your help! Join us at the library and by the end of the show you'll be laughing, singing, barking, buzzing and even playing air-banjo!
June 4-16: “The Mister Puppet Show!”
Presenting an original, good-old-fashioned, gut-busting puppet show from professional puppeteer Chandler Jackson. Filled with terrible puns, corny jokes and ridiculous slapstick comedy, “The Mister Puppet Show” is sure to appeal toward audiences of all ages!
June 18-29: Sugar Free Allstars: Time to Get Funky
Get ready to pack the dance floor, because here comes Sugar Free Allstars! This Grammy-featured, family funk super duo from OKC has been listed in Time magazine's top 12 family music acts in America. Save up your energy and join us at your library to see how they build their wonderful world of music by blending elements of soul, rhythm & blues, disco, gospel and New Orleans street parade music.
June 18-29: Rhythmically Speaking
Sloan found a large rock dating back to the Cretaceous Period. But she quickly discovers that it is not a rock but an unhatched dinosaur egg. Willameana, the unsuccessful chief wants to use the egg to make an award-winning omelet. They both are determined to control the future of the egg.
July 2-14: OKC Improv: Improv a Better World-- Build it With Us!
OKC Improv presents a show full of games and hilarity each time they perform, but they can only do it with help from the audience! Audience suggestions and participation fuel the funny in this family friendly shows - join us at your library and be part of the fun!
July 2-14: Adam and Kizzie
Adam & Kizzie will ROCK your day at your favorite library. How many songs can you name with the word ‘Rock’ in the title? Come find out as we explore the different ways to rock. From Rockin’ Robin to Planet Rock, they’ve got it covered.
July 16-28: Alegria Real: Un mundo de musica! A World of Music!
Music is inside of me, music is inside of you - music is what sets us free, and music lets us be you and me! Join us at the library to experience this dynamic super duo, Alegria Real on a musical journey that will get us all groovin’, movin’, singin' and swingin' to the colorful expressions of the Latin American heart!
July 16-28: Michael Corley presents: “Magic Rocks”
A high energy storytelling show incorporating musical themes with audience participation and illusions. Minds will be read! Magicians will pass through solid objects! And you will witness full body levitation!
