In 1844 the Methodist Episcopal Church in the United States was divided, and the M.E. Church and the M.E. Church, South, formed. In 1906 members of each of these Churches jointly organized a class at Epworth University, to be known as the Federated Epworth Church, the first pastor being appointed by the M.E. Church, South. Hereafter the pastors are to alternate from the two Churches.
