LATE OPENING: The Ronald J. Norick Downtown Library will open at 2:30pm on Sunday, April 27, due to the Memorial Marathon.

Attention:

The Ralph Ellison Library at 2000 NE 23rd St is closed for upgrades beginning April 16. We anticipate reopening on May 6.

Description:

Colonel Nelson “Bully Boy” Button was born in Indianapolis in 1849. He moved to Kansas in the 1870s, where he lived for several years and served on the first city council in Meade, KS. He eventually found his way to Oklahoma City shortly after the land run, where he represented Ward 1 on the city council for three years prior to being elected mayor. Not long after his term as mayor Button left Oklahoma City for Denver. He died in Utah in 1914 and is buried there at Myton Cemetery.
