Mayor Kirk Humphreys (1999-2003), Official Portrait

Description:

Born on September 13, 1950 in Oklahoma City, Kirk Humphreys attended school at Northwest Classen before receiving his bachelor’s degree from the University of Oklahoma. During his time as mayor the city would extend its efforts to support MAPS, approving further taxes to pay for the program. Humphreys served one full term as mayor before resigning during his second term to run for US Senate. In doing so, he became the first mayor in four decades to resign partway through a term as mayor. Humphreys eventually lost his bid for the US Senate to Dr. Tom Coburn of Muskogee.

For several years after his time as mayor, Humphreys co-hosted a local political program called Flash Point. Humphreys had also been on the University of Oklahoma Board of Regents, but announced that he would be stepping down as of January of 2018 after making controversial statements during an episode of Flash Point. Humphreys currently serves as CEO for his company, Humphreys Capital.
