The Metropolitan Library System welcomes Ashley Welke as the new manager of the Belle Isle Library January 4, 2016.  Welke has experience with human resources, management and library operations. She began her library career as a children’s librarian and volunteer coordinator and later as a branch manager at the Moore Public Library.

Welke has been a lifelong library enthusiast. “Public Libraries are such amazing places and have so much to offer.  Where else can you engage with technology, cozy up with a book, make new friends, download the latest books, music and magazines, find information on any topic, and attend a variety of programs- all for free?“ Welke said.

Welke holds a BA in Anthropology and Sociology from the University of California, San Diego and a MLIS from the University of Oklahoma.  While working for the Pioneer Library System she received the library system's Exemplary Colleague Award, the Outstanding Staff Award and the OLA Special Project Award.

She served as a board member of the Moore Public Schools Foundation, the Moore Old Town Association and was a member of the Moore Rotary Club.  She was also in the Leadership Moore Class of 2015.

Belle Isle is a wonderful library, and I am really looking forward to working with our members and the community,“ Welke said.

I earned a BA in Professional Writing from the University of Oklahoma. I enjoy writing about all of the great things the library system has to offer. When not penning articles and press releases about valuable library services, I hang out with my two creative children. We love to find interesting free things to do around Oklahoma and visit libraries and book stores wherever we go.
