Southern Oaks Library, established in 1975, stands out prominently against a background of trees and a small creek just one-fourth mile north of I-240. This people-oriented library serves the diverse educational, informational and cultural needs of south Oklahoma City and County.
On September 25, 2012, a renovated Southern Oaks Library opened from a 16,000 square foot building to a 20,000 square foot building. The modernized library has plush reading lounges, a large teen area and over 40 computers.
Southern Oaks Library is also the second library in the Metropolitan Library System to use a new automated book return sorter. This sorter automatically directs a returned book to one of up to 20 different location bins around the MLS. This helps MLS save time and get books back on the shelves to customers faster with few steps. Additional new features of the renovation include a new front vestibule and entry, rear driveway, more park spaces, and expanded bathrooms.
Local sculptor, Joe Slack, designed several sculptures outside the library entitled “Cover to Cover”.
