    Summer in central Oklahoma means hot days and cool fun. Kids and Teens can combine both elements when the Metropolitan Library System’s Summer Reading Games begin on June 1.

    The theme for this year’s Metropolitan Library System Summer Reading program for children is “Dream Big--Read.” Once again, MLS presents a slate of entertaining events illustrating the theme.

    “Every summer,” said MLS Children’s Services Coordinator Lisa Wood, “MLS partners with Arts Council of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Arts Council, and the National Endowment for the Arts to bring in local performers for daily presentations during June and July. This year is no exception.”

    Beginning Monday, May 7, member libraries in the Metropolitan Library System will add 128 hours per week of extended service.

    According to executive director Donna Morris, “MLS has always tried to exercise a conservative fiscal policy, and because of that policy, in addition to opening the new Patience S. Latting Northwest Library on May 22, we are also able to better increase our service to the public by adding extended operating hours at every library in the system.

    When a natural disaster is staring you in the face, it’s too late to make your emergency plans.

    That’s why the Metropolitan Library System and the American Red Cross have developed “Are You Prepared: For Earthquakes, Tornadoes and Fires?” This program will be presented at neighborhood MLS libraries beginning on April 3 through May 8. Fourteen libraries will host the event.

    “Nothing” can sometimes be a slippery slope to disaster, and especially when “nothing” means gossip and slander, as it does in William Shakespeare’s sparkling comedy, “Much Ado About Nothing.”

    The Metropolitan Library System and Reduxion Theatre present four free presentations of the play through April 21 at various MLS locations around Oklahoma County.
