  • campfire - something lurking

If you have been reading my blogs for awhile now then you know that I LOVE summer. It’s truly unfortunate for me that I was not born on the best coast/west coast and was unable to spend every waking moment with sea salt hair and tanned toned legs from early morning surf sessions and afternoons spent roller skating on boardwalks. This is the alternate reality I live in though, the dream world me, which is always blue skies, desert pink motels, and crashing waves.

Anyone who has been keeping up with David Lynch for the past 30 years knows that he and composer Angelo Badalamenti make quite the team. Badalamenti has scored every one of Lynch’s cinematic projects since Blue Velvet in 1986, garnering himself many awards. Most recently his music can be heard as the soundtrack to this summer’s hit series, Twin Peaks: The Return. What may come as a surprise to many is the fact that these two masters only met by coincidence.

On May 17, Chris Cornell, lead vocalist for the bands Soundgarden and Audioslave, died by suicide in Detroit. This was a shocking blow for fans. Cornell was one of the fathers of grunge in the 1990’s, and he had outlived so many of his contemporaries: Kurt Cobain (Nirvana), Kristen Pfaff (Hole), Shannon Hoon (Blind Melon), and Layne Staley (Alice in Chains) in the 90’s and Scott Weiland (Stone Temple Pilots) more recently. All struggled with drug abuse and some with mental illness, and despite Cornell’s public struggles with drugs, we thought he had triumphed. We thought he had survived. None of us knew that he was secretly suffering from depression.

Staring on or around July 10th, Zinio app users will see a message guiding them to download Recorded Books Digital’s (RBD) new RBdigital app. This migration is a part of the company’s plan to merge all their content into one centralized location.  While RBD is anticipating a smooth merge, there’s always the possibility of down times, glitches, etc. During the actual merge, starting June 26th at 8 p.m., users can anticipate a down time of 14 hours (8 pm on 6/26-midnight on 6/28).
