Under the direction of the Library Manager, the Engagement Manager provides leadership and direction for full-time and part-time Engagement staff at a small or medium library. Assumes overall responsibility for supporting the Library’s strategic goals and initiatives by working with Learning Experiences staff and Engagement colleagues to provide relevant and timely programs and services inside and outside the library.

About the Metropolitan Library System: 

In 2015, the Metropolitan Library System (MLS) celebrated a milestone – its 50th anniversary of services to the residents of Oklahoma County. This large, diverse system of suburban, urban and rural libraries serves the nearly 800,000 residents of Oklahoma County through 19 libraries. The Library’s mission, “we grow smarter communities, one person at a time”, speaks to its vision “to be the community’s hub for critical thinking, creative problem-solving and lifelong enrichment". With exciting programs like “Let’s Talk About It, Oklahoma: Piecing the Quilt, Stirring the Stew: Ethnic American Women’s Voices”, resources for learning and job preparedness, family game fests, teen advisory boards and Lego robotics, the Library reaches out to serve the interests of people of all ages. The appointed Metropolitan Library Commission of Oklahoma County consists of 27 voting members who represent each municipality with a library or library extension located within its boundaries, as well as the Mayor of Oklahoma City and an Oklahoma County Commissioner. The Friends of the Library raise funds and advocate for the library. The Library Endowment Trust provides a means for private contributions to be invested on a permanent basis so that they can meet the future needs of the library.

This position will be assigned to the Capitol Hill Library at 327 SW 27th Street, Oklahoma City, OK 73109.

Hiking, biking and picnicking are also right out the back door. The urban downtown center and adjacent lovely suburban communities give singles, couples and families a great range of living choices.

Qualifications: 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Education and Experience:

  • Master's degree from an ALA-accredited college or university in Library and Information Science.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • None

HIGHLY PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Enthusiasm for public service and the ability to work well with a diverse patronage.
  • High level of comfort with program planning, implementation and evaluation.
  • Experience building sustainable community relationships.
  • One or more years of management experience.
Salary and Benefits: 

The hiring salary for this position is: $50,606.40 annually.  This is a full-time position working 40 hours per week.  This position is exempt from the federal Fair Labor Standards Act.  Candidates should be available during library operating hours which include evenings and weekends.*
