What are the Sequoyah Book Awards?

The Sequoyah book award is the third oldest children’s choice award in the nation, beginning in 1959. Awards are given annually to authors in one of each of the categories: children’s, intermediate and high school.

Books selected for the masterlists must have been written by an author living in the United States, published three years prior to the award date and have received at least one positive review.

Criteria include literary merit, originality, timelessness, subject matter, accuracy clarity and readability.
